When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Acts 8:18-22
Out of all the silly things, one might do; trying to buy the power of the holy Spirit fits right at the top of the list. Peter told Simon that no amount of money can buy the gift of God. Man is crazy about money, but not God, for He doesn’t need it. Don’t let money rule you nor think that it is the answer to everything. And the false statement, “everyone has a price”. No! Some of us don’t have a price; we love the Lord way too much.

Having obeyed the gospel gives the faithful an edge as man goes though all the troubling times which has locked itself over the earth. Obeying the gospel has caused the faithful to be free from sin and able to have a relationship with the Creator. Roman 6.1-17. God will look out for His own and He won’t allow more than the saints can stand. 1 Cor 10.13. Psalms 37.
The world will probably be suffering for a very long time, because God doesn’t watch the calendar; for time means nothing to One who is eternal. My advice is to obey the gospel of Christ, so you can get clean from your sin and have a relationship with the Lord. After that, dig in deep, wait and keep the faith. God will do His work on the earth until He decides it is enough. 2 Samuel 24.16 In Mark 8.31-33, Jesus rebuked Peter, because he disrespected the word that was spoken concerning death on the cross. Peter loved the Lord and meant well; but being overly concerned that caused him to reject the word spoken by Christ and viewing it as not making any sense. Peter couldn’t imagine Jesus being arrested, abused and killed by wicked men. “No, Lord, he said; this won’t happen to you.”
Jesus was highly offended that Peter would question His authority. Jesus called Peter, Satan and said he only respected men and not God. The lesson is to accept what God said. It might appear questionable; but accept it. Don’t question that He doesn’t know what He is talking about; because that is what Peter did. Jesus said, the words He speaks are spirit and they are life. John 6.63 While I was going though the neighborhood passing out religious tracts inviting people to church services; I came upon a grumpy man out working in his yard. Good day sir, I said. He snarled; What’s good about it?
I replied back, “much.” Number thing is your ability to work in the yard. Also, being alive and healthy are great. But far better than that is the truth is being brought to him today. I have information which proves God loves him He thanked me, took the information and went back to work and I walked on down the street. I don’t know what he will do with the truth he has been presented. But that day was indeed a good day for him even if he didn’t recognize it. I hope that man doesn’t describe you. |
