When the cat is away, the mice do play. And so, the saying goes. It is quite often that people will betray the trust that others have placed in them by using money, property, automobile or some other valuable in a way that wasn’t authorized. For example, a person is told to watch the house while the owners are on vacation. But the house sitter brings girls over and the owner didn’t give permission. In another situation, a person is supposed to repair a car and rather than repair or even after the repair is done, they go joy riding in the car. The owners gave no permission for such abuse. It is the caretakers who decided to take advantage of the owner absence. The word of God teaches us to work for our fellow man as if we are doing the job for the Lord Himself. Col 3.23-24. It teaches us to obey our employers. Col 3.22. The word teaches us to treat others as we wish to be treated. Luke 6.31. The word teaches us not to be deceitful and not to lie. 2 Cor 4.1-2 Eph 4.24 Also, the word of God, informs us that the Lord sees all the deeds of men. Heb 4.13. When a caretaker abuses trust, he is in violation of all the above and in danger of damnation. John 5.29. The thing to do is your duty. Don’t be deceitful behind someone back. You wouldn’t want such done to you; so be truthful, don’t behave in an unethical manner with trust that has been given to you. Do what is expected of you.
