​When a male and female are dating; they need to date; not try to play husband and wife.   That means no changing her last name to his. Not moving in with him. Not paying each other’s bills.  Not having sexual intercourse.  etc.  The reason being, that person isn’t your spouse. You haven’t made marriage vows with that person. 1 Cor 7.39.
 
Date the person. Find out their beliefs.  Dreams. Goals. Who they are as a person. Their family background. What they are looking for in a potential mate, etc.   See if the person is compatible.
 
By dating, one should keep their intentions pure. It should be like a job interview in certain ways.  One is trying to decide if the person is the one and when that is confirmed; its marriage time.   Hebrews 13.4. Proverbs 18.22. Matt 19.5
