Where did this myth about “Saint Peter” at the “pearly gates” welcoming people into heaven come from? If it came from the Bible, give me book, chapter, and verse please (1 Peter 4:11). On the other hand, if it came from man, we better quit passing it on as fact and get rid of it all together. But the truth is, Peter was human just like everyone else, and he was no Pope, nor anyone special (Acts 10:25-26).
Peter was an Apostle, but so were 12 other men, and we don’t hear anyone talking about meeting “Saint Matthew” or “Saint Andrew” at the “pearly gates.” The Bible teaches that we will stand before Christ and be judged by Him, and He will be the one to allow our entrance though those “pearly gates” (2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-46; 7:21-23). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. In 1 Samuel 25, we are introduced to Nabal, a selfish rich man. This guy oppressed his employees daily as they broke their backs with sweat and blood to keep him rich. In verse 8, David asked Nabal to help him out with food and supplies, since he had helped Nabal shepherds look after the livestock and keep them free from thieves and wolves. But Nabal insulted David saying, “you won’t get a crumb from me” (verse 10-11). David and his men then planned to kill Nabal, but the shepherds reported their intentions to Nabal wife. And she, being a sensible woman, brought the supplies to David without Nabal knowledge, stopping the slaughter of her husband. Later on, Nabal found out that his wife helped David, and he became angry and appeared to have suffered a stroke and died (verse 35-38).
After reading this story, I wonder just how many Nabal’s are living today. This man had plenty and was too stingy to share with others. Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. We can get rid of stress by saying no to projects that are too much for us. We must realize that our stress level shoots though the roof when we allow others to overload us. The wise thing is to speak up and refuse to let men use us for dump trucks. People cannot know our limitations, so don't let them be our judges. Make sure that relaxing time is left for self and above all things, learn to trust in God (Matthew 6:25-34; Luke 10:38-42; Philippians 4:6; Ephesians 5:15-16).
Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Jesus Christ, the Apostles, and some Christians had miraculous powers by which they healed sickness and injuries. They picked up snakes, struck men dead, blind, cast out demons, and healed with handkerchiefs and their shadows (Matthew 8:1-17; 9:1-35; 12:9-13; 14:15-36; 15:21-39; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 2:43-44; 3:1-16; 4:7-22; 5:1-16; 6:8; 7:55-56; 8:5-25; 9:6-43; 13:9-12; 14:8-12; 16:16-18; 19:11-12; 20:9-12; 28:1-10).
Ever wonder why you don't see the same powers from people who claim to have the power of the Holy Spirit? Ever wonder why these people never go in a hospital to heal, or a graveyard to raise the dead? Ever wonder why neighbors who live next door to such people don't even know they claim Holy Spirit power? And that’s because these lying people know they can’t heal(Revelation 2:2). Thats right! They can’t heal a broken hair on a dogs tail! If a person has the power of the Holy Spirit, he will be busy using that power and everyone would know about it.People suffering from gunshot wounds, car accidents, stabbing, etc, would all be healed (1 Corinthians 2:4). So beware! Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. “Then said one unto Him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And He said unto them, strive to enter in at the strait gate; for many I say unto you will seek to enter in and shall not be able,” Luke 13:23-24. “Enter ye at the strait gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and many shall go there, but because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life and few there be that find it,” Matthew 7:13-14. (KJV) These are the words spoken by Jesus Christ, and distressing as the words are, they are true. People will be lost because of the refusal to submit to the commandments of God. Jesus said if man does the will of the Father, he will be saved (Matthew 7:21).
However, man loves doing things his way and not God’s way (Proverbs 14:12). For example, men refuse to accept the Bible as the infallible word of God. Men refuse to go to church. Men refuse to pray, and men refuse to believe in Jesus. Men are bold enough to deny the existence of God. With all this evil being done, it’s easy to see why most will go to hell (Psalms 12:1-8, 14:1-7; 1 Peter 4:18). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. We are now in what is called the holiday season. Last week many enjoyed a very good meal and happy time with family and friends. It is amazing how man can practice kindness and sharing during the holiday season, for such is credit to the human race. But it would be better for us all if this conduct existed throughout the year. Kindness doesn’t cost us anything and it certainly creates the character that God intended for man to display. So why not give the virtue of kindness a try?
Just think for a moment; if we had more kindness, there wouldn’t be all the problems that are hurting us (Hebrews 13:1-3; Colossians 3:12; Galatians 6:10; Romans 12:17-18; Matthew 7:12). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. How much money do people have to lose before they wise up to the schemes of some preachers? A congressman has started an investigation of the preachers on cable networks, questioning their spending habits and lifestyles. Some of these men and women are living a life of luxury off the backs of the hard working, deceived viewers who keep sending the checks (2Peter 2:1-3; Romans 16:17-18).
Back in the '80s, people thought they had seen it all when Jim Bakker used church funds to build an air conditioned dog house. Come on people, wise up! The Bible teaches a simple plan concerning the church and money. Each church is to lay something aside on the first day of the week in order that the work of the church may continue. This offering is provided by the members of the local church, and no one else is required to give. The church takes this offering and spends within its budget, and the work of the church will continue (1 Corinthians 16:1-4). The next time you see preachers begging for money, turn off the TV! Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Gossip is something people do very well. As one walks past others on the street, it is easy to overhear them yapping about the business of others. But why tell a third person about the situation of someone else? If you have something to say to another person, you should go to that person and talk about it. Who knows, you just might win him over and not have to blab his situation to others.
But if you have tried and got no where with the person in question, then you might need to talk to a third party, so that he and you can approach the person with good intentions in mind (Matthew 18:15-17). But some are just like the Athenians of old, they live to hear and speak something new (Acts 17:21). Let us not be tale bearers (Leviticus 19:16; Proverbs 11:13; 18:8; 26:20, 22; 2 Thessalonians 3:11; 1 Peter 4:15; 1 Timothy 5:13). Do your own work and mind your own business and leave the affairs of others alone (1 Thess. 4:11-12). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. In times gone by, we heard of churches that predicted the end of the world. The members sell all their possessions, quit their jobs, and sit down to await the end. But these accounts are ridiculous and just plain pitiful! They are pitiful because the very Bible these people claim to obey teaches that there is no way one can figure out or know the time of the Lord’s return. Jesus taught that no one knows when the end will come (Mark 13:32-33). Do these people know something that the Lord doesn’t? You also hear people talking about the signs of the end, but truth is, the end has no signs or clues. The end of time has been described as coming without warning, and unexpectedly like a thief (Mark 13:34-37; 2 Peter 3:10).
We are not to predict the end nor sell everything or quit our jobs. We are to live day by day, serving God and preaching the gospel until He returns (2 Timothy 4:1-2; Jude 21-23). There are many lost souls that need to be saved, and a Christian cannot save them if he is locked away someplace. Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Halloween is here again and for those who believe that ghosts haunt the earth, their belief will become more intense. But such ought not be the case—it’s just another holiday where people dress in costumes and give candy. However, man needs guidance, something to show him direction and shine light on the issues which confront. So that is where the Bible helps, and people can better themselves by having faith in the word (Hebrews 11:6; Psalm 19:8-10; Mark 9:21-23; Ps. 119:105). The scriptures are God’s speech to man and He teaches that the dead don’t spook the living (2 Timothy 3:14-17; Ecclesiastes 9:4-6, 10; Job 7:1-10; Job 10:18-22; Ps. 103:13-16; 2 Samuel 12:22-23).
At death the spirit of man is removed from earth and taken to Hades to await judgment (James 2:26; Heb. 9:27; Ps. 90:10; Luke 24:5; Luke 22:42-43; Acts 2:29-32; Luke 16:19-31). Ignorance of what the Bible teaches has lead many to believe things contrary to the Word, and a highly creative imagination has caused many to think they hear and see things (Acts 17:22-27). But if one believes the word of the Lord, he will be secure (Proverbs 1:29-33; Ps. 34:10; 1 Peter 2:2-6). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. |
