A surfer was attacked by a shark the other week and lived to talk about it. After seeing the video on TV, many wanted to know if he would return to surfing after such a scary encounter. We saw this week that he has returned to the waves and some might say he is crazy to do so. But after giving it some thought, I don’t think so. Take a look at this verse. “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth” (Genesis 1:28). The ocean is the domain of the fishes, but the whole world is the domain of man, and he is to master the world (shark included). So, allow the man to have access to the sea, no fish should run him away from it, but after such an event, using better caution certainly isn’t a bad idea.
Hope to hear from you or see you at the services With all of the hot weather, it is our hope that sweating and heat has done one good thing—that is get people to think about Hell (Mark 9:43-48; Matthew 13:49-50, 10:28).
You see, all will spend eternity somewhere (Matt. 25:31-46). Unbelievers laugh and say there is no such thing, but how do they know that? Unbelievers have deceived themselves into believing something that they cannot prove (Psalms 14:1-3). God does exist because one cannot get something from nothing and since He does, Heaven exists and so does Hell (Romans 14:8-12; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 5:22). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. God is in the heavens which are unreachable by man (Ecclesiastes 5:2; John 3:12-13). Many try to criticize His doings because, being men, they just don’t understand His greatness (Psalm 111:1-10). God is in control of everything. As the song goes, “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” Death, sickness, earthquakes, fires, floods, all these things terrify men, but they have no bearing on the Lord. He is the Supreme and is greater then all these things put together.
So, God doesn’t have to rush as men do. He has it all in the bag, while man has to search to find a bag. Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. You might be wondering why you have gotten this weekly from the Mt.Airy church of Christ. You got it because the church of the Lord isn’t supposed to sit in the world and be silent. The Lord has given the church a mission to speak his word and let the people know what is commanded (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 16:5; Ephesians 3:7-10). There is much tradition of men in religion (Matt. 15:1-14). Things not found in God’s word are put forth as doctrine and people accept such as truth (Jeremiah 23:30-33).
For example, December 25th as the birth of Christ. Peter as the first Pope. Baptizing babies. Calling men “Reverend” and “Father” Becoming a saint after death. Lent, Church baking projects. Church sponsored recreation like ball teams and other games of contest. Praying for the dead. etc. etc. Read the New Testament and see what the church taught and compare it to what you see in your church. Or pick a church practice and request that a church leader show you such in the Bible. You will be amazed when the church leader does a lot of talking but cannot show Bible authority. “Prove all things” saith God (1 Thessalonians 5:21). So challenge your church leaders to prove their practices from the Bible (Acts 17:11). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. If the word of the Lord has spoken concerning a matter, and the evidence is written in the pages of the scriptures, that is the Lord’s decision, and it will not change (Isaiah 55:10-11). Man will be judged by what is written in the book of God (John 12:48; Revelation 20.11-12). This is being said because people have been confronted with what the scripture teaches, and they will dismiss it and accuse the one reading the scripture of judging. They will also say something to the effect of “ live and let live” or “allow God to judge,” etc. However the major fatal flaw of such thinking is God has already judged the matter by the verse which has been rejected. On the Judgment Day, He will judge people by the same verses they have refused. Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Children need things in life like a married father and mother, no out of wedlock stuff at all. Children need parents who will teach them right and show them wonderful examples to live by. Children need parents who will bring them to church so that they can learn about the Lord. Children need parents who can provide for their needs so that they don’t have to grow up in poverty. There are far too many children living in poor conditions because of parents who didn’t prepare themselves financially. So what is the point of all of this? For every man and every woman; to think before you have children. Make sure you are ready for children and above all; make sure you are married when you have them. As the Bible teaches, do things decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40; 1 Timothy 5:14). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services You might be wondering why you have gotten this weekly from the Mt. Airy church of Christ. Many people suffer from great anxiety, they stress over everything and such reminds me of Martha as she rushed around trying to get dinner ready for Jesus (Luke 10.40). But the Lord told her that she was overdoing it, and she needed to slow down and reflect upon the word of God, just as her sister Mary was doing (Luke 10:41-42). That is indeed the truth and God’s word really does make differences in life if it is allowed to take full preference over everything else that may be present (Matt. 11:28-30). For this to be reality, one must live according to what the scriptures teach and have full faith in the Lord, and it will come to pass (Psalms 37:3-9). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Two good reasons to believe in God is the existence of justice and hope. If there is no God, meaning nothing bigger then ourselves, there cannot be justice nor hope. How could men deliver hope, and how could man without Divine help know justice? (Jeremiah 10:23; Proverbs 20:24).
Man has failed to capture and punish murderers. Many are still walking the streets and will face no punishment for deeds done in this life. But because God does exist, there will be a Day of reckoning when all men will stand before their Maker and answer for the deeds done while on earth (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; Hebrews 4:13; Proverbs 15:3; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 2 Cor. 5:10; Revelation 20:12). Many say it is karma, when one suffers what he has dished out. But karma isn’t the correct term. Instead, God said that such is reaping what one has sown (Galatians 6:7-8). Yes, God has fixed things so well that he who plans to roll a stone over someone, will have that same stone roll back over him (Colossians 4:24-25; Prov. 11:5, 26:27). For with God there is hope, without God, there is doom (Psalm 14:1). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. We invite you to visit our website and read some of the articles posted there. And should you be incline to do so, we have listed our meeting times so that you may visit the services. Rather than promoting man-made doctrine, churches must teach the Bible and it alone (Mark 7:6-13). Men must speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where the Bible is silent. Also, everyone must do things in Bible ways and call things by Bible names. In other words, let there be book, chapter and verse before doing anything (Colossians 3:17; 1 Peter 4:11; 2 Thessalonians 2:15; 1 Timothy 4:16). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. It has been said that America is going secular in its beliefs, and there will be no room for the church in years to come. If that is the case, man will have to answer as to why the majority will spend eternity in hell (Matthew 7:13-14). Jesus spoke regarding the condition of man on the last day. He said that most men travelled the “broad way,” or the highway to hell, and only a few walked on what He said was the “narrow way.”
Jesus built and died for His church, and He didn’t do so without a purpose (Matt. 16:18; Acts 20:28). The church is to be like the ark was for Noah during the flood—for the church are the people called from the sin of this world and placed into the safety of the Lord’s flock (Colossians 1:12-13; Acts 2:47; John 10:9; Eph 5:23). Like there were no saved people outside the ark, there are no saved people outside the church. So if man becomes secular during life, then man had no use for the church, thereby keeping himself out of it and at the same time condemning himself to the fires of hell.
