Worship God, Not the Preacher

4/16/2006

This is only for people who believe the Bible to be God's word.

I wonder how many people go to church to worship the preacher? To these people the preacher may not utter one scripture during his sermon, but they still think he did a great job! To these people, they can be shown what the Bible said about a topic, and rather then accept the Bible, they will go and ask their preacher. These people feel their preacher can do no wrong and if their preacher said it, it must be right! Such is the doom of a flock who places confidence in man rather than the Word (Jeremiah 17:5–9; Isaiah 9:16).

The Apostle Paul had this problem because people started to worship him, and he had to put a stop to it (Acts 14:11–15; 1 Corinthians 1:12–13; 1 Cor. 4:6). Apostle Peter went to the home of a man to teach him and that man fell down at Peter's feet, but Peter told him not to do that because he (Peter) was a man also! (Acts 10:25–26). Understand that the preacher is not Jesus or God the Father. The preacher is a sinner just like everyone else, and he will be judged by Jesus on Judgment Day and either be invited into heaven or cast into hell (Revelation 22:12). So, don't worship the preacher or call him "Reverend" which is God's name (Psalm 111:9). Don't call him "Father" "Rabbi" or whatever because Jesus said all men are simply brethern (Matthew 23:1–12). Look to the Bible for your authority, and if you can't find it in the Bible, leave it alone! And when the preacher doesn't preach the Bible, you better leave him alone, too (Jer. 23:13–40).

Hope to hear from you or see you at the services.
