Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord. “Half of my possessions, I shall give to the poor and if I have scammed anything from anyone, I shall repay it four times over.” Luke 19.8
You just read the words of a contrite man. He confessed to the Lord Jesus Christ of his intentions to make restitution for his sins. Restitution is good for man; it causes him to make good for damage that has been done to others. It is cold and heartless to damage someone, change their life for the worst and just walk away like nothing has happen. Yet, many evil people do that. Such uncaring attitudes cannot exist any longer. If one does wrong to another, he needs to make good on the damage. God wants men to enhance each other; not tear each other down by making life miserable for their helpless victims. If you have caused damage to another, do the right thing. Go and repair that damage. And the most important thing is never cause hardship in the first place. A funeral took place this past week and there was a 60 year old man lying in a casket for all to see. The funeral parlor did a very good job making the man appear to be at peace as he lay there. Many people told of good times with the gentleman and how he loved his family, telling jokes, cooking, and going to the shore etc. All of that is probably true for there?s no need to think otherwise. However, I would like to remind us that a body lying in a coffin is just that, a body in a coffin. The soul of the deceased lives on. Matt 10:28. The works that a person did in life, follow into the hereafter and it is there that men will be judged based on what the works are. Rev 14:13. Luke 16:25. 2 Cor 5:10.
A selfish person will have his selfish works in tow as he stands before God. A murderer will have the blood of his victim clinging to him as he stands before God. An unfaithful spouse will carry adultery with him to meet the Lord. A person who uses profanity will go into judgment with every vile word spoken, already there to testify against him. Matt 12:36. etc. Colorful speeches at funerals are interesting to hear and I suppose we should continue to hear them. But let us not forget that a funeral is an excellent time to reflect on what your works are. Anyone at a funeral can attempt to preach a person into heaven; but the final decision will be made based on a persons works. Anger and wrath are game changers. People who flare up, throw things, curse and punch others are walking time bombs. The word of the Lord teaches that anger rests in the bosom of fools. Eccl 7:9. So when you have a fool and he is angry, you got chaos. Pro 17:12. Pro 18:7.
One of the things you learn about people after you have been around them, is do they have a temper? If they do, you best stay away. Anger not controlled has lead to wife beating, sucker punches, destruction of property and even murder. Females shouldn?t date combustible boyfriends. Motorist should do their best to avoid drivers who are volcano?s. Employers should be wary of hotheaded employees. etc. Be on the look out for wrath. If you see it, be assured that you will see it again, so take care by backing away and stay very far away. There?s no need to see anger up close. Revelations 6:17 Man has done lots of damage to his fellowman. Sexual assault, murder, fraud, gossip, adultery, etc.
Why can?t man treat other human beings as he wishes to be treated? Luke 6:31. It?s not that hard; just make up the mind and get it done. Joshua 24:15. Instead, men creates victims and I ?m talking about hundreds of them. Just look at the news, see all the people that have fallen upon hard times though the hands of another. A victim is a person that has been eliminated or damaged by another deeds. As I write, I?m thinking about those four carjackers, who fled at a high rate of speed from the police and crashed into cars and a woman sitting on the steps of a church crushing her legs. That poor lady is now a victim of the car jackers actions. Decent people cannot speak for evil people, but good people will not create victims, they create better people. Rom 13:10 I tell people if they refuse to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ; they better make sure they begin a relationship with one who is better. But you know what? I don?t see how that is possible.
Jesus Christ was in the beginning. John 1:1-4:14-17. John 8:23. Col 1:13-20. Jesus Christ is the Messiah, sent to die on the cross to save men from sin. John 3:13-18. John 8:12. John 8:21. By the word of Jesus Christ, all men will be judged on the last day. John 12:44-50. So, whatever one believes in, that resume better be superior to that of Christ. Acts 4:12. Rev 1:5-8. 1 John 1:1-10. Heb 13:8. John 8:56-59 |
