Some people just cannot get enough of movie stars. A great deal of time is spent talking about, following them on twitter or trying to match up with their lives as much as possible; in other words be like the “celebrities”. But what about your own life? Don’t you matter?
The Bible warns against “people fascination.” “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:5-8 Why spend time being fascinated with people who you will never get to meet? If enough time is spend being around movies stars, one will probably see how self centered many of them are and will want nothing farther to do with them. What people need to do is to take an interest in themselves and consider where they will spend eternity once this life is over (Hebrews 9:27; 2 Corinthians 5:10). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Many were disappointed last week because they didn’t win the big lottery. Some went to great lengths to buy as many tickets as they could, and I’m sure some important things (rent/car payments, etc) went lacking because the chance to get the winning ticket took first priority.
Christ asked a powerful question once, and it hasn’t been answered to this day. “If a man gain the whole world (and that is more than that lottery last week) and lose his soul; what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36-37). No amount of earthly possessions can save a person from eternity. As great as money, fame, car’s, houses, etc, are, none will have any value once man leaves this life and stands before God to be judged (1 Timothy 6:7-10,17; 2 Corinthians 5:10). More people need to hear this because so many are caught up in making money and getting the things of this life and words like these remind people of what the future will bring. Yes, repentance is needed and souls are at risk (Acts 17:30-31). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Shooting a police officer because he is an authority figure is flat out wrong! Yet, that is what the nation saw a few days ago in west Philadelphia. Across the globe there are those who say they can kill in the name of their God, all because someone doesn’t convert to what they are preaching.
That is a red flag in the face of every person who listens to someone teaching that unbelievers should die. Students are being taught to commit murder, because it cannot be classified as anything else (Romans 13:9-10). This doctrine isn’t the work of the Lord, meaning it isn’t true doctrine; rather it is false doctrine (Matthew 7:15). Secondly, the laws of the USA permit the freedom of worship, but it doesn’t permit killing those who don’t comply with a sermon. Teaching the word of God is fine, but if a listener informs that they aren’t interested, the teachers must leave them alone! The teacher should find someone else who is willing to sit down and listen. But at no time should a person plan on killing in the name of God because there is no such thing (John 8:34-44; Jeremiah 23:30-32). Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Thomas asked Scott why he doesn’t use profane language, to which Scott replied; “it costs more then I can afford.” Now maybe you are puzzled by all of this, so allow me to explain what Scott meant.
Scott had some knowledge of the word of God, and he knew that words aren’t free. Like a credit card, man’s use of them will have to be paid one day. Jesus Christ said, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment, For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37). Scott doesn’t use profanity because he doesn’t want to answer to the Lord on Judgment Day and have those words condemn his soul to a burning Hell. Next time you hear someone use obscenity, be sure to remember what you have learned today. Can that person afford what they just said? Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. Another year has come and gone and a new one is now upon us. Everyone is also closer to the graveyard or the Day of Judgement, (whichever comes first) and for all nonbelievers, this is true if you accept it or not (Hebrews 9:27). Looking back over our past, we need to be honest with ourself and see where we stand on God’s approval list because with many of us, He is not pleased (1 Corinthians 10:5).
The attitude of man continues to sink to all time lows. The respect that men should have for the commands of the Bible, the word of God just keeps getting worse. Man has accepted the false theory that the Bible is outdated, when the truth is, the Bible is the everlasting word of God suited for every generation and it will be the standard by all men will be judged on the last Day (John 12:48; Revelation 20:11-12; 2 Cor. 5:10). And dig this if you will. The earth, the heavens and the works on the ground will all be destroyed by God (2 Peter 3:10-14). And the only thing left will be those who stood on the Bible the word of Almighty God (Matthew 24:35; 1 Pt. 1:22-25; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; 2 Thess. 1:6-10). Not bad for a book which is supposed to be outdated, but the truth is; the Bible is powerful enough to get a person into heaven and to remain standing long after all humanity is gone (1 Timothy 4:11-16). One more thing to add. Can any non-believer offer anything better then principles taught in God’s word? (Deuteronomy 4:8). If so, what is it? One non-believer thought he could answer the question. His reply was “love”. But that isn’t anything new! The word of God teaches man to love and that fellow was simply repeating a virtue that God had already instructed man about. Again I ask: if the Bible is obsolete, why is it everlasting and will be the rule by which all will either go to heaven or go to hell? Hope to hear from you or see you at the services.
